He'd been teaching now for almost a month and he was enjoying it immensely. His students were great - he had three classes that he lectured in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the good thing was, he was typically done by one in the afternoon. He'd spend two more hours in his office in case the students had questions and so that he could put grades into the computer when necessary.

It was just such an afternoon and he was waiting for Methos to come pick him up for the day - they were going out to dinner that night - when a knock at his door got his attention.

"Come in," he called out in Spanish. The door opened to reveal one of his students, a young American named Brian who was probably twenty years old if that. Brian smiled as he came in and closed the door. "What can I help you with, Brian?" Daniel continued in English.

"Well, I had some questions about your lecture on World War One," he said quietly as he sat down in front of Daniel's desk. Daniel nodded and leaned back in his chair.

"What kind of questions?"

"Well, more like observations, really," Brian said with a smile. What his professor didn't know was that Brian had fought in the first world war - for America - and then again in World War II and some of the things Daniel had spoken of, Brian either didn't remember happening or he remembered them a different way. Plus, it gave him a chance to spend time with the good looking man. Of course, Brian had seen the wedding band on Daniel's finger but that had never stopped Brian before...

Daniel was quick to finish, setting all the chairs right and turning off the lights in the small area before heading back to where Methos waited for him after he grabbed his laptop from the office.

"What do you say we go home and I will fix us something to eat while you try to call Joe again?"

"Yes, of course. I want to call Joe as soon as possible and find out what it going on with Brian." he nodded, leading them to the car and driving to the villa.

As they arrived home - and yes, Daniel could think that now since he knew Methos was serious about them staying here - Daniel set his laptop on the coffee table and kicked off his shoes before heading into the kitchen to begin working on a Spanish omelet for them both.

Methos went for the phone almost immediately after getting in the door, dialing up Joe.

Joe was waiting for that call, sitting and looking at his laptop.

"So how did you run into Brian Jefferson?" he asked, not wasting any time for small talk.

"He met my...my husband. At the local university where he's teaching. Brian's a student there... I walked in when he was in his office." Methos answered, quickly, "Tell me. Who is he?"

"Well, that explains a lot then. That's part of his MO, Adam. He goes after Immortals that are married, be it to regular mortals like your husband or other immortals. With someone like you, who's married to a mortal, he toys with the mortal spouse, right out in the open most of the times, before he moves to kidnap them, torture them and eventually making them watch as he kills their immortal husband or wife. Adam, this guy means business and if he's already gotten to your husband once, don't doubt that he can do it again. He's been at this since the early twelve hundreds. He's older than Mac and he's devious. He may have chosen your husband's class as a fluke but now that he knows about you, he won't stop until he's got your head."

Methos' free hand was clenched so tight it started drawing blood. He couldn't let this man lay a hand on Daniel.

"I'll make sure he never does something like this again... thank you, Joe."

He needed to check on Daniel. He had a sudden worry. He couldn't let his husband out of his sight.

Daniel was working in the kitchen, chopping up vegetables and such for the Spanish omelets he was working on. He didn't notice that he was being watched, his mind fully on cooking and wondering if his husband would like it. After a moment or two, he turned to get the eggs from the fridge and startled to find Methos just standing there watching him.

"Oh gods, Methos... warn me you're there next time," he said, one hand to his chest before he noticed the far off look in his lover's eyes. "What... what is it? What did Joe say?"

"Brian is dangerous. I want you to call off work. I can't let you out of my sights until I know Brian won't be a problem anymore." Methos said, relieved to find his husband safe and sound in the kitchen.

Daniel looked at him in surprise for a moment before turning to get the eggs from the fridge and moving back over to the counter. He didn't know how to answer that. He wasn't accustomed to being unable to do his job.

"You want me... to... to what? Put my life on hold because of this immortal?"

"Yes." Methos said, firmly, his teeth clenched, "He may try and kidnap you. Torture you... I can't let it happen again, Daniel.. I can't.."

Daniel set everything down on the counter and sighed softly, turning and walking over to his husband, framing Methos' face in his hands.

"All right, love," he said softly, calmly. "All right. Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it. I promise. I'll call them tomorrow morning first thing." He kissed Methos softly and pulled back, watching him carefully. "Stay with me while I finish cooking?"

Methos kissed him back, nodded slowly, "Of course I will."

He wasn't letting Daniel out of his sight for a second, so it wasn't anything he wouldn't have done anyway.

Daniel finished off the omelets, three eggs for each one, and got them onto plates, setting them on the table along with some flat bread he'd made earlier in the week.

"Want to grab us one of those wines you brought him a while back?" he asked as he lit the candles on the table. "And I put chorizo in the omelets so keep that in mind when you encounter something spicy this time, love."

He could leave for a few moment's couldn't he? He looked worried, then nodded, "Yes... I'll go grab one."

Methos rushed to the wine cellar grabbed a bottle and quickly made his way back.

Everything was safe and sound when Methos returned, Daniel sitting at the table, waiting quietly for him, smiling up at him as he returned.

"Thank you, love," he said softly. "Come on then, before the food gets cold..."

He sat down at the table opening the wine and pouring it in their glasses. Then Methos allowed himself a moment to relax and look over the food. He breathed it in with a smile.

Methos started to eat and moaned in pleasure, "Very good, love..."

"I love watching you eat something I make," Daniel said with a grin. "I'd almost be jealous if I didn't know better."

Methos laughed, then winked teasingly, "Yes, I've been considering leaving you to run away with your food."

Daniel laughed and shook his head.

"Well, if I wake to find you gone one morning, then I shall know to come looking for you in the kitchen before I look anywhere else." He turned back to his food before sitting back in his chair, watching his husband intently.

"What did Joe say that has you so worried about Brian? Is he as old as he says he is or is there something more?"

"He said that he's been around since the 1200's." Methos sighed, "He has an MO of capturing the significant others of Immortals. He tortures them. Then makes them watch as he kills the Immortal in front of them..."

Daniel sat there in shock, unable to really say anything for several minutes. Still quiet, he stood and walked into the study to retrieve what looked like a written report and, returning to the dining room, handed it to Methos.

"When I read his first paper, I thought he just..." he trailed off slowly. "I'm guessing that paper was written about his first wife... a young woman from the mid thirteen hundreds who was burned as a witch. Apparently she was an immortal as it says she was taken into custody when she appeared dead one day and alive the next. He was forced to watch it happen and could do nothing to save her. When I first read it, I thought perhaps he just had a vivid imagination. I never dreamed that it was... real."

Methos took the paper, staring down at it and gritting his teeth. It took all he had not the crumple the offending paper in his fist.

"I could care less for his reasons. He's not the only one that's had to suffer loss. And those Immortals continued on their lives, never making others suffer as they have. I will gladly rid this world of him, if he tries to touch you. Which I already know he plans to do." His expression was dark and feral.

Daniel moved to kneel next to his husband, resting his head against Methos' knee.

"He can plan all he wants. I know you'll keep me safe. I already told you I'd call out to the school until either he leaves or you...deal with him." He looked up at his husband slowly.

"Finish eating and then come to bed," he said softly. "I really, really need to just feel you tonight. Please."
