Daniel opened his eyes, unsure of where he was, what he was or even who he was at the moment. It was too damn bright, though, he knew that much, and it was hot and whatever he was lying on was scratchy. Come to think of it... He focused and looked beneath himself to find that he was laying in sand. And he was naked. Neither made him feel any better. Nearby lay a blanket or something that resembled a blanket and a few feet away there was a stone, circular object with writings on it that made no sense to him. He grabbed the blanket and wrapped it around himself as he stood and approached the ring. As he got close, the thing began to move and make noise and he quickly got away from it, hiding himself behind a nearby tree as a blue puddle seemed to explode out of the ring before becoming calm and still... it looked like water. He didn't want to get too close again, worried now about what, exactly, had just happened and what or who might just come out of that blue, watery looking opening...

He woke to the feel of something hot and rough beneath his skin and a burning wind across the rest of his body. When he opened his eyes, he quickly closed them again when something stinging blew into them. He shivered and burned at the same time as he lay there. It grew hotter and the wind died down. He worked to open his eyes again and found it didn't hurt quite so much.

"Daniel..." a voice whispered nearby. Daniel. Who was that? Was that him? He didn't know. He looked around but didn't see where the voice was coming from. "Daniel... come... we are losing day light and we must hurry." He shook his head and sat up slowly, still looking to find the owner of that voice. It was soft, inviting, a feminine. As he pushed to his feet he felt something wrap around him and he blinked as he saw a woman standing before him. "Well, you're younger than I'd planned but no matter. You're healthy and whole once more. Your memory will return slowly but I know the old one will take care of you no matter what. He has grieved for your loss these two years. But he waits for you at your homestead. But we must hurry. Once the sun leaves the sky the temperature drops rapidly and you are not well dressed for such an environment."

"You called me Daniel. Is that my name?" The woman nodded as they began to walk through the desert sand. "Where are we?"

"I believe you call this place Egypt, Daniel. And we are going to your home where your husband is waiting for you."

"My... " he trailed off and frowned as if trying to remember who his husband was and how he'd come to have one. "I feel strange."

"It took me longer than I'd hoped to bring you back and I seemed to have somehow made you younger than you were when you last ascended. You still look the same for the most part but your body is almost fifteen years younger than it was when you came to us."

Daniel didn't say anything further to that, following the woman through the desert until they approached a rock wall with a gate. She led him through the gate and up the walkway towards a beautiful house.

"I live here?" he asked softly. The woman nodded as they reached the door. She knocked quietly then turned to Daniel.

"Be patient now, Daniel. He is coming... and he has missed you terribly..."

The morning after Daniel's episode of feeling light headed and dizzy, the mortal woke feeling a little off balance, but nowhere near as bad as he had the day before. He decided it had just been a fluke and left his sleeping husband to grab a shower. He let the water beat against his body and became acutely aware of just how hyper-sensitive his skin was and how achy he was beginning to feel. Surely he wasn't getting the damn flu... He didn't feel as if he was running a fever and he wasn't having any other symptoms either. He shook it off, finished his shower and stepped out, drying off and pulling on a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. Methos was still asleep so Daniel headed into the living room and then out onto the balcony, sitting at the table there and looking out over the city. He hadn't been sitting there very long when he felt like his nose was beginning to run. When he wiped the back of his hand across it, he was surprised to see blood staining the back of his hand. That wasn't promising. He heard movement in the living room and cursed quietly as he knew Methos was now awake and would likely question the bloody nose if nothing else. Daniel stood to retrieve a cloth but the dizziness was back and he grabbed the chair for support, calling out worriedly for his husband as he did so.

Daniel finished out the semester at the university and informed them, with some regret evident, that he would not be returning for summer sessions and probably not in the fall either. He was happy with his decision because he wanted time with Methos. He'd taught for a year but the whole thing with Brian had bothered him a lot and he didn't really feel safe out in the open so to speak; not that he was going to tell that to his husband, though. He didn't want Methos to worry about him.

He left campus and headed to the coffee shop/bookstore that his husband was leaving in the capable hands of his store manager until they returned to Spain. Leaving the things from his office inside the car, Daniel stepped out and headed into the store, searching for his husband behind the counter. The place was incredibly busy, as usual. Daniel's smiled slipped a little. He hoped he wasn't being selfish by taking Methos away from this... maybe he should have given this more thought....

He'd been teaching now for almost a month and he was enjoying it immensely. His students were great - he had three classes that he lectured in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the good thing was, he was typically done by one in the afternoon. He'd spend two more hours in his office in case the students had questions and so that he could put grades into the computer when necessary.

It was just such an afternoon and he was waiting for Methos to come pick him up for the day - they were going out to dinner that night - when a knock at his door got his attention.

"Come in," he called out in Spanish. The door opened to reveal one of his students, a young American named Brian who was probably twenty years old if that. Brian smiled as he came in and closed the door. "What can I help you with, Brian?" Daniel continued in English.

"Well, I had some questions about your lecture on World War One," he said quietly as he sat down in front of Daniel's desk. Daniel nodded and leaned back in his chair.

"What kind of questions?"

"Well, more like observations, really," Brian said with a smile. What his professor didn't know was that Brian had fought in the first world war - for America - and then again in World War II and some of the things Daniel had spoken of, Brian either didn't remember happening or he remembered them a different way. Plus, it gave him a chance to spend time with the good looking man. Of course, Brian had seen the wedding band on Daniel's finger but that had never stopped Brian before...

They'd been in Madrid for a couple of weeks now, sightseeing as well as looking for places to live. Daniel was coming to like the villa they were in himself but he didn't know if Methos liked it or wanted someplace more private for them. At least if they had a more private area, his husband could practice with his swords whenever he wanted and they could fall asleep out on the patio after making love without worrying about neighbors seeing them.

Three weeks after their marriage, Methos had gone into town on his own and Daniel had stayed behind, caught up in the books from Alexandria, having asked Methos for help in translating a few things here and there and now, having made a key of his own, he was hard to pull away from them. As it got dark, Daniel headed inside to start working on dinner hoping Methos would be home soon.

He looked around Adria's ship as he wandered along the hallways. He'd been here a couple of weeks now as a Prior and it was the first time in over a year that he'd felt... wanted... needed even. He didn't believe in everything Adria had the Priors preaching and he certainly didn't approve of the genocide committed in Adria's name but, all that aside... he was finding that this was a place where he could belong and not be pushed away or brushed aside. He'd been thinking this way for the last two days and he figured it was time to speak to Adria. Only... she was away and he was due on a nearby planet in an hour. Maybe he'd talk to her once he was back on board. Hopefully she'd be back by then as well..

The plane landed in London around two in the afternoon. Daniel had been awake for about three hours when it was time to land and, once landed, was more than happy to be off the plane. It didn't take them too long to retrieve their luggage before he followed Methos out of the airport to a cab that was waiting to take them to the hotel his lover had mentioned earlier.

It was three days after Daniel had been admitted to the hospital and Dr. Stevens had said he could be released that morning. He looked over at the cot where Methos lay sleeping and smiled to himself. The man had not once left his side since his arrival. It gave Daniel hope that maybe they'd work things out again. He thought of where they might go because Daniel didn't think he could go back to his apartment given that Methos had killed Jack there. He'd actually been looking to buy a house up in the mountains and wondered if he could convince Methos to stay with him there if he did so...

He was brought out of his thoughts as the door to his room opened and Dr. Stevens walked in, holding all of the paperwork that needed to be signed before Daniel could leave. The doctor glanced over at Methos and then at Daniel.

"Shall I wake him or did you want to do that?"

Daniel Jackson, now learning to call himself Ibraham and speak only in French or Arabic, stood just behind his lover, Methos, as he steered the boat towards where the elder said they would dock in about an hour. The weather had been beautiful for the most part over the past month that they had traveled. He'd enjoyed the quiet privacy with the immortal and hoped he wouldn't be giving up too much of it now that they were soon to return to land.

He moved to wrap his arms around Methos from behind, resting his chin on the elder's shoulder.

"Once we dock," he spoke in Arabic, "how far is it to your residence?"

Daniel had left Colorado feeling both content and torn. He missed Methos and he knew the older man would laugh at him for being so sentimental. He carried the glock everywhere he went, keeping it well hidden on himself. Even in the museum he kept it in a shoulder holster for fear that his teammates or someone worse might come looking for him.

He'd been in New York for almost two weeks when he started packing up to get ready to leave for Egypt. He'd already sent several boxes ahead and they'd be at his home there by the time he arrived. He packed up the last of Methos' journals in a duffel bag and slung it over his shoulder as he headed out of the museum and headed for the hotel where he'd been staying. He wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to his surroundings and therefore didn't realize he was being followed. He entered the Plaza hotel and made for the elevator which took him to the tenth floor. Stepping out of the elevator, he headed three doors down to his suite and swiped the card to unlock the door. Inside, he set the bag to one side, closed the door behind him and headed further into the room. He had just turned towards the mini-bar when pain exploded in his head and he was out cold.

When he woke, it was dark in the room except for a couple of low lights that weren't clsoe to him. He tried to move and realized he was bound to the bed. What the hell...

"Hello?"

"You know, it's taken me a while to figure out where the hell you disappeared to," came a familiar voice. "I don't like having to track you down, Daniel. You know I'm not a patient man."

"Screw you, Jack," Daniel growled out angrily. "I don't work for you or your government anymore. Now let me go and get the hell out of here before I forget we every had a friendship and I just kill you myself."

"Why Daniel... I think you're angry. Look, just... tell me what I want to know and all of this can stop. You have my word..."

Daniel shook his head. He didn't believe that for a moment. He should have just gone straight to the airport. For a brief moment, he wondered where Methos might be... or what he might do if he found Daniel like this...
