He'd been teaching now for almost a month and he was enjoying it immensely. His students were great - he had three classes that he lectured in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the good thing was, he was typically done by one in the afternoon. He'd spend two more hours in his office in case the students had questions and so that he could put grades into the computer when necessary.

It was just such an afternoon and he was waiting for Methos to come pick him up for the day - they were going out to dinner that night - when a knock at his door got his attention.

"Come in," he called out in Spanish. The door opened to reveal one of his students, a young American named Brian who was probably twenty years old if that. Brian smiled as he came in and closed the door. "What can I help you with, Brian?" Daniel continued in English.

"Well, I had some questions about your lecture on World War One," he said quietly as he sat down in front of Daniel's desk. Daniel nodded and leaned back in his chair.

"What kind of questions?"

"Well, more like observations, really," Brian said with a smile. What his professor didn't know was that Brian had fought in the first world war - for America - and then again in World War II and some of the things Daniel had spoken of, Brian either didn't remember happening or he remembered them a different way. Plus, it gave him a chance to spend time with the good looking man. Of course, Brian had seen the wedding band on Daniel's finger but that had never stopped Brian before...

"While I suppose getting your fingers chopped off is preferable to your head, probably best to keep your hand out of the picture, love." he lowered the bokken, "And keep your thrusts quick and close, wide archs leave you open for attack."

Daniel nodded at his husband's words. "Instinct, I suppose, to do that." He went back to his beginning stance and waited for his husband to do the same.

Far enough away not to be felt, Brian watched through binoculars, chuckling softly to himself. Cute... the immortal was trying to teach his husband to sword fight...

Methos nodded too, then took a quick thrust toward Daniel's thigh.

Daniel blocked and then thrust back towards Methos' open left side.

He dodged it, "Good! You're getting better, already!"

Daniel circled his husband, looking for another opening and thrusting up towards his husband's chest as he did so.

Methos brought his bokken up in a quick block, then kicked a leg out to knock Daniel off balance.

Daniel wasn't expecting that and his knee gave on him even as he brought his sword down to try and catch his husband's leg.

He hopped over the bokken, as he had been expecting that move. He held his sword out at the ready.

Daniel caught himself with a slight growl and moved to thrust back towards his husband, going for Methos' stomach this time as he did so.

Methos brought his sword up to block the thrust, putting them into a lock of blades.

Daniel felt a little of his anger pushing to the front... not that he was angry with his husband by any means but he was angry at a lot of other things. He threw his weight forward intent on knocking his husband off balance, swinging the bokken as he did so.

He used the weight against Daniel stepping to the side, and tossing Daniel onto his back, very gently. His bokken rested at his neck, "Getting frustrated during a fight leads to a quick death."

Daniel lay there for a minute, reigning in his anger before nodding slowly and reaching out to Methos for help up.

He took his hand, pulling him up, "Did you want to take a break?"

Daniel pulled him closer, kissing him hard before pulling back and shaking his head.

"No, I'm good, but maybe just some of your kata exercises? I understand what you said about not attacking in anger but... I'm just feeling a lot of it right now..."

"Not at me, I hope?" He gave a small smile, still holding him tight.

"Never at you," Daniel whispered softly. "More at things I have no control over because they've already happened, my own memories... even myself a little. But no, never at you."

"Okay, good. I just wanted to make sure you weren't getting upset with me during the sparring. I didn't want to take it too easy on you..."

"That was easy?" Daniel teased before kissing his husband once more. "No. I'm fine with it. Just... I'd like a better idea of what moves I can use before we try again, though."

He nodded, "Alright. Then katas it is."

Daniel smiled softly and pulled away from his husband, waiting for them to begin.

Methos began the katas with the bokken in hand, slowly at first so Daniel would have an easier time mimicking the motions.

Daniel followed each movement, slowly relaxing into each one, following his husband as Methos' sped up his movements just a little more.

They did this for almost an hour and Daniel felt calmer than he had in a long while as they continued.

Methos kept going the motions becoming increasingly quicker and more complicated. He'd stop as soon as Daniel needed to rest.
