Daniel smiled and lay there with him, eventually falling asleep as well.

The next day, Daniel met with the agent about the villa and was only slightly shocked at how much the owners were going to want for the estate. He wondered if Methos would be surprised but he guessed probably not. He stopped by the school campus and picked up and set of papers to grade and was heading back to his car when he felt as if he were being followed, watched, or both. He set everything down in his car and glanced around the area but nothing seemed out of sorts. Shaking it off, he climbed into the car and headed off to his husband's bookstore.

At the store, he pulled out his laptop and the papers he'd brought along to grade and was just walking to the door when a familiar voice spoke.

"Let me get that for you, Professor." Daniel looked up to see Brian standing there and he stepped back just slightly.

"You really shouldn't be here, Brian," he said quietly. "The fact that you're immortal aside, I am not comfortable with it. You're my student and that is all. Now, please, you really need to leave before you do upset my husband further..."

"Consider me upset." Methos turned the corner of the building, sword drawn, but resting at his side. The moment he'd sensed the other Immortal, he'd slipped out the back of the shop and come around the side to sneak up on the presence.

What he saw, made him less than pleased.

Brian looked at the other immortal and smirked slightly even as he held his arms out to either side.

"I'm unarmed," he said quietly. "I was only trying to help your husband since he had his hands full."

Something about him, aside from simply being an Immortal, had Methos on edge. The look in his eye spelled trouble.

"What are you doing here, Brian?"

"I was just in the area. I saw your husband here trying to handle his laptop and papers and the door so, I just wanted to help. Well, that and I was hoping for a chance to talk with him about an upcoming paper he'd assigned us."

Daniel sighed softly.

"No, you may not use life experience as part of the paper," he answered, feeling as if that must be what Brian wanted to know. Brian laughed and shook his head.

"But my life experiences are... well worth the read..." Daniel was growing really uncomfortable now and looked at Methos.

"I'm... I'm going inside," he said quietly...

Methos slipped his sword back in his coat and walked toward Daniel, getting between the two of them, he leveled Brian with a look very reminiscent of his time as Death.

"You're making my husband uncomfortable. I'd appreciate it, if you left. Now."

Brian raised a brow slightly, probably not quite as intimidated as the older immortal had hoped he would be.

"Very well," he said quietly. "Professor, I'll see you in class Friday then. My... apologies for upsetting you." He looked back at Methos, smirking slightly. "I dare say you and I will see each other again." That said, he turned and walked off. Daniel shuddered slightly from behind Methos.

"I really need to see about getting his classes switched to someone else besides me... though this late in the semester, I'm not sure if the department chair will agree. But something about him... don't suppose your friend, Joe, could find out anything about him?"

Methos watched the other Immortal leave, with trepidation. He had a very bad feeling about all this.

"I can give him a call..." he nodded, "There's something about him. I don't like it one bit."

"I wasn't real enthused with his response that I'd enjoy reading about his... past so to speak." He shook his head and walked into the store, moving back towards Methos' office. "I think I'm going to just stay in here for now if that's all right with you. I have papers I need to grade. Oh. I went and saw the agent... you're not going to believe how much the owners want for the villa..."

"It did sound rather ominous..." Methos frowned, following Daniel to the office.

"Oh, how much?" that made him smile, bringing him out of his thoughts on Brian.

"Their starting price is two point five million," he said softly, plugging in his laptop. "I told the agent you'd call him if we were still interested." He pulled up his online grade book.

Wow. That was a lot. But not entirely unexpected. He had the money, so why not spend it on something they wanted, "Alright. I'll give him a call."

Daniel stopped what he was doing and looked up at Methos slowly.

"Did you hear the price I just gave you? That's a lot of money, Dante..." He had to remind himself to use that name in this place, especially with suspicious immortals wandering around. "I just... if it's what you want then okay but I don't want you to feel like it's something we have to stick with. We could probably find something a little less expensive..."

But probably not as private...

"I have a lot of money. And I seldom get the opportunity to flaunt it so egregiously. Plus I want this place... it's been perfect for us." he explained, as he went to the phone to first call Joe and then about the house.

Daniel just chuckled softly and left him alone to call the older mortal.

Joe answered on the second ring.

"Dawson..."

"Joe. It's Adam." he was paranoid. Joe was a Watcher and his phone might be tapped. He wasn't going to risk it.

"Adam. I'm surprised to hear from you. Mac said you were having quite the busy life these days. Everything all right?"

"I've had a run in with another Immortal... I wanted to see if the Watchers were familiar. The name he's going by is Brian Jefferson. He's implied that he's old enough to have fought in the American Revolution..."

There was silence on Joe's end of the line and the mortal man cursed silently to himself. He'd hoped Jefferson wouldn't run into Methos and his partner...

"Ah, look, Adam, perhaps we should talk about this when I get home tonight. On my personal cell phone? You still have that number, yes?"

"Yes... I do." Methos eyes narrowed, the implications having him worried, "I'll call you tonight, Joe."

"Good, good. I'll have that information for you then. Be. Careful." That said, Joe ended the call and went to work gathering the information he knew Methos would want when he called back that night.

Daniel looked up from where he sat at the desk.

"Dante? Everything okay?"

"Joe told me to tall him later tonight on a private line... it didn't sound good. Brian must be bad news..." Methos frowned.

"So... I suppose you'd prefer I stay with you until you close tonight then?" Daniel asked softly, sitting back in the chair as he waited for that answer.

"Yes." he nodded, "I don't know what Brian might be planning, but I don't want you out of my sight, love."

"All right," Daniel said, standing and walking over to him, kissing him softly. "I will stay here and work on grading these papers and then, if you want, I can give you a hand in the store?"
