He'd been teaching now for almost a month and he was enjoying it immensely. His students were great - he had three classes that he lectured in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the good thing was, he was typically done by one in the afternoon. He'd spend two more hours in his office in case the students had questions and so that he could put grades into the computer when necessary.

It was just such an afternoon and he was waiting for Methos to come pick him up for the day - they were going out to dinner that night - when a knock at his door got his attention.

"Come in," he called out in Spanish. The door opened to reveal one of his students, a young American named Brian who was probably twenty years old if that. Brian smiled as he came in and closed the door. "What can I help you with, Brian?" Daniel continued in English.

"Well, I had some questions about your lecture on World War One," he said quietly as he sat down in front of Daniel's desk. Daniel nodded and leaned back in his chair.

"What kind of questions?"

"Well, more like observations, really," Brian said with a smile. What his professor didn't know was that Brian had fought in the first world war - for America - and then again in World War II and some of the things Daniel had spoken of, Brian either didn't remember happening or he remembered them a different way. Plus, it gave him a chance to spend time with the good looking man. Of course, Brian had seen the wedding band on Daniel's finger but that had never stopped Brian before...

Methos' free hand was clenched so tight it started drawing blood. He couldn't let this man lay a hand on Daniel.

"I'll make sure he never does something like this again... thank you, Joe."

He needed to check on Daniel. He had a sudden worry. He couldn't let his husband out of his sight.

Daniel was working in the kitchen, chopping up vegetables and such for the Spanish omelets he was working on. He didn't notice that he was being watched, his mind fully on cooking and wondering if his husband would like it. After a moment or two, he turned to get the eggs from the fridge and startled to find Methos just standing there watching him.

"Oh gods, Methos... warn me you're there next time," he said, one hand to his chest before he noticed the far off look in his lover's eyes. "What... what is it? What did Joe say?"

"Brian is dangerous. I want you to call off work. I can't let you out of my sights until I know Brian won't be a problem anymore." Methos said, relieved to find his husband safe and sound in the kitchen.

Daniel looked at him in surprise for a moment before turning to get the eggs from the fridge and moving back over to the counter. He didn't know how to answer that. He wasn't accustomed to being unable to do his job.

"You want me... to... to what? Put my life on hold because of this immortal?"

"Yes." Methos said, firmly, his teeth clenched, "He may try and kidnap you. Torture you... I can't let it happen again, Daniel.. I can't.."

Daniel set everything down on the counter and sighed softly, turning and walking over to his husband, framing Methos' face in his hands.

"All right, love," he said softly, calmly. "All right. Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it. I promise. I'll call them tomorrow morning first thing." He kissed Methos softly and pulled back, watching him carefully. "Stay with me while I finish cooking?"

Methos kissed him back, nodded slowly, "Of course I will."

He wasn't letting Daniel out of his sight for a second, so it wasn't anything he wouldn't have done anyway.

Daniel finished off the omelets, three eggs for each one, and got them onto plates, setting them on the table along with some flat bread he'd made earlier in the week.

"Want to grab us one of those wines you brought him a while back?" he asked as he lit the candles on the table. "And I put chorizo in the omelets so keep that in mind when you encounter something spicy this time, love."

He could leave for a few moment's couldn't he? He looked worried, then nodded, "Yes... I'll go grab one."

Methos rushed to the wine cellar grabbed a bottle and quickly made his way back.

Everything was safe and sound when Methos returned, Daniel sitting at the table, waiting quietly for him, smiling up at him as he returned.

"Thank you, love," he said softly. "Come on then, before the food gets cold..."

He sat down at the table opening the wine and pouring it in their glasses. Then Methos allowed himself a moment to relax and look over the food. He breathed it in with a smile.

Methos started to eat and moaned in pleasure, "Very good, love..."

"I love watching you eat something I make," Daniel said with a grin. "I'd almost be jealous if I didn't know better."

Methos laughed, then winked teasingly, "Yes, I've been considering leaving you to run away with your food."

Daniel laughed and shook his head.

"Well, if I wake to find you gone one morning, then I shall know to come looking for you in the kitchen before I look anywhere else." He turned back to his food before sitting back in his chair, watching his husband intently.

"What did Joe say that has you so worried about Brian? Is he as old as he says he is or is there something more?"

"He said that he's been around since the 1200's." Methos sighed, "He has an MO of capturing the significant others of Immortals. He tortures them. Then makes them watch as he kills the Immortal in front of them..."

Daniel sat there in shock, unable to really say anything for several minutes. Still quiet, he stood and walked into the study to retrieve what looked like a written report and, returning to the dining room, handed it to Methos.

"When I read his first paper, I thought he just..." he trailed off slowly. "I'm guessing that paper was written about his first wife... a young woman from the mid thirteen hundreds who was burned as a witch. Apparently she was an immortal as it says she was taken into custody when she appeared dead one day and alive the next. He was forced to watch it happen and could do nothing to save her. When I first read it, I thought perhaps he just had a vivid imagination. I never dreamed that it was... real."

Methos took the paper, staring down at it and gritting his teeth. It took all he had not the crumple the offending paper in his fist.

"I could care less for his reasons. He's not the only one that's had to suffer loss. And those Immortals continued on their lives, never making others suffer as they have. I will gladly rid this world of him, if he tries to touch you. Which I already know he plans to do." His expression was dark and feral.

Daniel moved to kneel next to his husband, resting his head against Methos' knee.

"He can plan all he wants. I know you'll keep me safe. I already told you I'd call out to the school until either he leaves or you...deal with him." He looked up at his husband slowly.

"Finish eating and then come to bed," he said softly. "I really, really need to just feel you tonight. Please."

He ran his hand through Daniel's hair, nodding slowly, looking down at him. "Alright, love."

Methos knelt down to kiss him on the head, softly.

Daniel smiled softly and pushed himself to his feet once more. "I'll make sure everything is locked up then. It may sound... strange... but... I really need a shower. Just being near him today was..." He shuddered, trailing off on that thought as he moved to lock up the house and set the security alarm. "Did you ever call the agent back?" he asked, walking back into the dining room.

In all the events of today, worrying about Brian, Methos had forgotten.

"I'll have to do it tomorrow morning. I forgot to do it today.." Methos said as he finished eating. He took his plates to the kitchen.

Daniel leaned against the counter, watching him. He'd have forgotten about it, too, given all that was going on around them.

"You're staying home with me tomorrow, remember?" he asked softly. Tomorrow was Wednesday. If Methos had forgotten to tell his employees then Daniel would just go into work with him; he wasn't staying at the house alone, security systems or not.

"Yes. I'd already planned to do that, before all of this." he nodded. Having notified his employees already.

He finished cleaning his dishes and went to Daniel, arms wrapping around him protectively. Truth be told, Methos was scared. He was worried that despite all planning and knowledge, Brian might get to Daniel anyway. And he didn't want that to happen.

"I can not believe I'm going to even suggest this, but... couldn't you challenge him before he tries to do something to me?" Daniel asked softly, content to be in his husband's arms at that moment.

"I'll try and seek him out." he said, "And there is no guarantee that he'll fight by the rules. I'm tempted to just shoot him then decapitate him on sight. The Game be damned."
