he barely missed being gutted but being headbutted caught him off guard and he stumbled back, losing his dagger and just barely managing to keep hold of his cutlass to block the blow till aimed at his stomach. With a sharp yell, he went back on the offensive thrusting towards Methos's chest as he did so.
