Spain

They'd been in Madrid for a couple of weeks now, sightseeing as well as looking for places to live. Daniel was coming to like the villa they were in himself but he didn't know if Methos liked it or wanted someplace more private for them. At least if they had a more private area, his husband could practice with his swords whenever he wanted and they could fall asleep out on the patio after making love without worrying about neighbors seeing them.

Three weeks after their marriage, Methos had gone into town on his own and Daniel had stayed behind, caught up in the books from Alexandria, having asked Methos for help in translating a few things here and there and now, having made a key of his own, he was hard to pull away from them. As it got dark, Daniel headed inside to start working on dinner hoping Methos would be home soon.

"Thanks," Daniel said with a smile, sitting down in the chair. In the last three weeks since their marriage, Daniel had gotten a lot better at eating and his strength was slowly returning. He wanted to ask his husband to help him work out some kind of physical routine so that he could get himself built back up like he was before all the torture and sickness had happened to him...

"So, how were things in town?" he asked instead.

"Good. The weather today was fantastic, so there were lots of people out today. I love the shops in town too, everything about this place, really." he took her fork and started to eat. He let out a moan and he ate, "This is very good, Daniel... perhaps you should be the house husband, instead of myself."

Daniel smiled, listening to his husband talk before laughing and shaking his head.

"I'm glad you enjoyed yourself... and I'm glad we came here." He pointed his fork at Methos. "Oh I don't think so. I've actually been giving some thought to teaching again to be honest. There is a university nearby that is looking for linguistic teachers in many of the languages I speak. While I may not be completely comfortable with large crowds, perhaps lecturing a few times a week wouldn't be so bad..."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"That sounds like an excellent idea, Daniel." he smiled, softly.

"I was hoping you'd be okay with it," Daniel said softly before turning back to his food. "Of course you realize it means I'll be surrounded by young Spanish students constantly," he teased. "I wouldn't mind my gorgeous husband showing up every now and again to let it be known I am not available."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Methos laughed, "I would be happy to do it. Scare off any young men and women trying to get their hands on my man.."

Daniel chuckled softly, sipping at the wine Methos had brought back with him.

"Oh wow... this is really good. I like it a lot."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course it is. I used to own a vineyard, you know. In Paris. Very successful one, point of fact." he grinned.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't know that," Daniel said with a smile. "Though I shouldn't be surprised. I can't think there's much you haven't done, love."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Precious little." he agreed, "Name a profession and it's a good bet that I've dabbled in it for a time."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Daniel smiled and finished the food on his plate before leaning back in his chair, wine glass in hand, sipping at it as he thought to himself for several quiet moments.

"Hmm... I'll say it's a safe bet you never worked in a circus. You're too private a person to have done so..."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Have you ever met carnies? They are a close knit group. Very private lives outside of shows. I did a stint as a trick rider in the 1870's. Only a couple years, though."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've heard of them but never met them. Anything like gypsies? I've met those before. Sounds like it might have been fun for you then." He finished off his wine before pouring more into his glass. "All right, have you ever been a film actor? Would that even be safe for someone like you?"

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay you've got me there. I was an extra on 'Casablanca', but I kept my face hidden... it would be too dangerous to do much more than that you're right. I was on a game show in the nineties. That was how Kronos tracked me down. I'll never do something so careless again."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Daniel smiled softly, trying to think of anything else but nothing seemed to come to mind.

"I dare say you've been a soldier more times than one could count. I know you're a doctor as well as a psychiatrist... what about a priest?"

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Methos just smirked, "Immortals can't challenge you on Holy Ground..."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Daniel sat forward in his chair, gaze locked onto his husband

"And you didn't tell me this before because...?" And why hadn't he read about it in his husband's journals? "So, we need to buy a place and have it blessed so that you'll be safe whenever we're at home."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I never thought to mention it. There are some that don't head that. It's just rule. Same as having to accept a challenge one on one." he shrugged, "A common courtesy."

"But if it would make you feel better, we can do that."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-27 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"It would make me feel better," Daniel admitted quietly. "I realize you say it's just a rule, but, yeah... I'd feel better."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-28 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Methos smiled, "Alright. Then we'll do it."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-28 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you," Daniel said softly, taking Methos' hand and kissing the inside of his husband's palm before letting go once more.

"So tell me... how long were you in Alexandria?"

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-28 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Thirty years. I happened to be in the building when it was burning down. I took whatever I could and fled."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-28 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Have you ever shown the books to anyone else?" He was into that scholarly mode he got into at times and he was curious if Methos had shared these books and their knowledge with anyone else...

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-11-28 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I haven't. By the time I could show them to someone, I wouldn't have a valid explanation for how they came into my possession. Now, I had several others... and anonymously donated them to a few museums over the years. But I kept these ones for sentimental value."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-11-28 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Daniel nodded slowly.

"A good move on your part," he said quietly. "Maybe one day..." he trailed off and smiled softly before he stood to begin clearing the empty plates from the table. "So, what will you do if I decide to teach a couple of days a week?"
