He'd been teaching now for almost a month and he was enjoying it immensely. His students were great - he had three classes that he lectured in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the good thing was, he was typically done by one in the afternoon. He'd spend two more hours in his office in case the students had questions and so that he could put grades into the computer when necessary.

It was just such an afternoon and he was waiting for Methos to come pick him up for the day - they were going out to dinner that night - when a knock at his door got his attention.

"Come in," he called out in Spanish. The door opened to reveal one of his students, a young American named Brian who was probably twenty years old if that. Brian smiled as he came in and closed the door. "What can I help you with, Brian?" Daniel continued in English.

"Well, I had some questions about your lecture on World War One," he said quietly as he sat down in front of Daniel's desk. Daniel nodded and leaned back in his chair.

"What kind of questions?"

"Well, more like observations, really," Brian said with a smile. What his professor didn't know was that Brian had fought in the first world war - for America - and then again in World War II and some of the things Daniel had spoken of, Brian either didn't remember happening or he remembered them a different way. Plus, it gave him a chance to spend time with the good looking man. Of course, Brian had seen the wedding band on Daniel's finger but that had never stopped Brian before...

He pressed the gun to Brian's temple just as he spoke those words, having snuck up on him from around the corner of the house as he'd been dialing.

"Tell whoever that is on the other end of the line to stand down or I will blow your head off right now, and take your head-- damn the rules. You've lost the right to them a long time ago, anyway." Methos voice was absolute and deadly.

"You'll shoot me and take my head anyway, Dante," Brian growled even as he smirked slightly. "Not much incentive for me to cooperate, is there?"

At the house, Mac was reading through one of Daniel's books on the Revolutionary War when he heard a noise coming from the back of the house.

"Daniel?" he called as he stood and headed for the noise.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Methos glared, "I suppose you're right."

He pulled the trigger. He would just have to trust that Mac could handle whatever was being sent his way. There was nothing else he could do.

He was still going to play this by the book. He wanted to end Brian in God help him, a fair fight. But it wouldn't be here. He quickly tied up Brian with Duct tape and dragged him to the trunk, grabbing Brian's sword as well. The fire crews were off in the distance and he had to take this somewhere else.

Methos drove off, until they'd made significant distance between themselves and the fire. Plus he could hear Brian starting to struggle in the trunk. He pulled off onto a service road and parked.

He got out of the car and popped the trunk, grabbing the now waking Brian and dragging him out kicking and screaming.

Brian struggled against Methos, cursing at him in several different languages as he did so.

"What is your deal?! You're completely off your rock! Let me go and fight me if that's what you want, you bastard."

Mac headed for the bedroom and was just coming around the corner when he heard a gun shot and stopped short as he heard what sounded like a body falling to the floor. He drew his blade and slowly stepped around the corner to find Daniel sitting up on the bed, pistol in hand and someone he didn't know bleeding out on the floor. Daniel was shaking and his eyes were completely glazed over.

"Daniel..." Mac said quietly, holding out one hand towards the younger mortal. Daniel didn't even acknowledge him and Mac decided not to push it for now. So long as Daniel was safe...

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"If anyone is off their 'rock' it would be you, Brian." Methos growled before slicing the Duct tape off his hands and shoving him to the ground. He tossed Brian's sword next to him in the dirt.

"You don't use someone's loved ones as bait for the Game. I don't give a rat's arse what happened to your wife. You aren't the only one whose ever had to suffer loss..." Methos pulled out his Ivanhoe, leaving his rapier in his coat for now, "Now, get up so I can end your worthless life."

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Brian grabbed his cutlass and pushed to his feet, watching the other immortal carefully.

"You have no idea what happened to me so don't you dare judge me you pompous bastard. You're an idiot for marrying one of them! They all die you know... sooner than you want! Even our own kind dies but at least we're harder to kill. And you, Dante, are going to be a pleasure to kill because once I am done with you, there will be no one left to protect your precious husband..." He circled the other immortal slowly, cutlass held tight as he looked for an opening of any kind.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Methos would just let him think that he was an idiot who could never understand his pain and who was leaving his husband open for attack. 'Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance.' He had no cause to further argue with this pathetic little man. There was no course, but the end of his life. The time for talk was over. So he said nothing.

He knew better than anyone, especially Brian, just how fleeting the life a mortal's life was and even those of fellow Immortals. But that was no reason to take the actions Brian had.

Methos took a defensive stance, waiting for the other Immortal to make his move.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Brian feinted left before coming around and aiming to slice his blade across Methos' stomach.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
He hopped back, blocking the blade as it aimed toward his gut. His leg kicked out toward Brian's kneecap.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Brian's blade came down to block that kick even as he jumped back from it and swung back towards Methos' right arm.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He barely avoided getting his leg cut off there. Methos brought up his sword quickly blocking the shot to his arm. Then he back off, the brought his Ivanhoe outward, facing down, glaring daggers at Brian the entire time.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Brian watched him carefully, smirking slightly.

"You're quite good," he said as he continued circling him. "I would say I'm impressed but what's the point. I dare say I underestimated your age, though. That doesn't normally happen for me." He feinted right this time and as he turned he pulled a dagger from inside his jacket and thrust it towards Methos' side.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
His hand slipped into his jacket pulling out his second blade to block the dagger before it landed, "And I dare say, you've underestimated my abilities on quite a few levels."

Methos thrusted his Ivanhoe down toward Brian's stomach, as he reared his head back and then headbutted the other Immortal.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
he barely missed being gutted but being headbutted caught him off guard and he stumbled back, losing his dagger and just barely managing to keep hold of his cutlass to block the blow till aimed at his stomach. With a sharp yell, he went back on the offensive thrusting towards Methos's chest as he did so.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He brought both swords up with a cross, with Brian's thrust coming between them, he dropped to the ground, and used Brian's forward momentum against him tossing him over his head.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Brian rolled and came back up onto his feet quickly, cutlass held at the ready once more, breathing a little heavier than before now as he grew angrier at how much this other immortal seemed to know.

He gave another cry, this one more filled with rage than anything else as he moved back towards Methos, swinging towards the other immortal's stomach as he did so.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Methos blocked the shot with one blade and brought down the other to chop off his hand. Then he kicked Brian to the ground.

He brought up the rapier high over his own head, "There's something I'd like you to know before you die. It's not something I often tell other Immortals. But considering you're about to be not so Immortal... I figure I can tell you."

"I am not only older than you previous thought... I am the oldest living Immortal. I'm Methos. And you, Brian? You're nothing."

He brought the sword down, rending Brain's head from his body.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The immortal's Quickening flashed and radiated from ground to sky, around Methos' body, crashing through him as most others had done in the past. When it finally ended, the world around him would be dark and quiet once more.

Only the ringing of his cell phone could now be heard as Mac tried calling him, worrying over the amount of time that had passed and the fact that Daniel was still sitting in bed, pistol in hand and not saying anything.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Gasping for breath and on his knees, Methos picked up the phone, "Hello?"

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Methos... thank God. You're all right then... please tell me you've finished off Jefferson.."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes... I just did." Methos confirmed, having finally caught his breath. He stood and started back toward his car.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good. You need to get back here then. Quickly." There was a hint of worry to Mac's voice even if he'd tried to hide it as he spoke.

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"What happened?" Methos frowned, rushing to his car and hopping in, before speeding off back home.

[identity profile] dr-dmjacksonsg1.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think Brian had someone watching the house or something. About half an hour after you left someone came in through the back an tried to grab Daniel. I heard noise and went to check on him and heard a gun shot. Daniel had shot whomever it was. Thing is... he's not responding to me, Methos. He's just sitting there, on the bed, pistol still in his hand and I can't get in there to remove the dead body or find out who he is."

[identity profile] really-oldguy.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
His eyes widened in concern, "I-alright, I'll be there as soon as I can. I'm already heading back."

He stepped on the gas, flooring it the whole way back to the house. He got out of the car and rushed in and to the bedroom.
