He'd been teaching now for almost a month and he was enjoying it immensely. His students were great - he had three classes that he lectured in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the good thing was, he was typically done by one in the afternoon. He'd spend two more hours in his office in case the students had questions and so that he could put grades into the computer when necessary.
It was just such an afternoon and he was waiting for Methos to come pick him up for the day - they were going out to dinner that night - when a knock at his door got his attention.
"Come in," he called out in Spanish. The door opened to reveal one of his students, a young American named Brian who was probably twenty years old if that. Brian smiled as he came in and closed the door. "What can I help you with, Brian?" Daniel continued in English.
"Well, I had some questions about your lecture on World War One," he said quietly as he sat down in front of Daniel's desk. Daniel nodded and leaned back in his chair.
"What kind of questions?"
"Well, more like observations, really," Brian said with a smile. What his professor didn't know was that Brian had fought in the first world war - for America - and then again in World War II and some of the things Daniel had spoken of, Brian either didn't remember happening or he remembered them a different way. Plus, it gave him a chance to spend time with the good looking man. Of course, Brian had seen the wedding band on Daniel's finger but that had never stopped Brian before...

"Tell whoever that is on the other end of the line to stand down or I will blow your head off right now, and take your head-- damn the rules. You've lost the right to them a long time ago, anyway." Methos voice was absolute and deadly.

At the house, Mac was reading through one of Daniel's books on the Revolutionary War when he heard a noise coming from the back of the house.
"Daniel?" he called as he stood and headed for the noise.

He pulled the trigger. He would just have to trust that Mac could handle whatever was being sent his way. There was nothing else he could do.
He was still going to play this by the book. He wanted to end Brian in God help him, a fair fight. But it wouldn't be here. He quickly tied up Brian with Duct tape and dragged him to the trunk, grabbing Brian's sword as well. The fire crews were off in the distance and he had to take this somewhere else.
Methos drove off, until they'd made significant distance between themselves and the fire. Plus he could hear Brian starting to struggle in the trunk. He pulled off onto a service road and parked.
He got out of the car and popped the trunk, grabbing the now waking Brian and dragging him out kicking and screaming.

"What is your deal?! You're completely off your rock! Let me go and fight me if that's what you want, you bastard."
Mac headed for the bedroom and was just coming around the corner when he heard a gun shot and stopped short as he heard what sounded like a body falling to the floor. He drew his blade and slowly stepped around the corner to find Daniel sitting up on the bed, pistol in hand and someone he didn't know bleeding out on the floor. Daniel was shaking and his eyes were completely glazed over.
"Daniel..." Mac said quietly, holding out one hand towards the younger mortal. Daniel didn't even acknowledge him and Mac decided not to push it for now. So long as Daniel was safe...

"You don't use someone's loved ones as bait for the Game. I don't give a rat's arse what happened to your wife. You aren't the only one whose ever had to suffer loss..." Methos pulled out his Ivanhoe, leaving his rapier in his coat for now, "Now, get up so I can end your worthless life."

"You have no idea what happened to me so don't you dare judge me you pompous bastard. You're an idiot for marrying one of them! They all die you know... sooner than you want! Even our own kind dies but at least we're harder to kill. And you, Dante, are going to be a pleasure to kill because once I am done with you, there will be no one left to protect your precious husband..." He circled the other immortal slowly, cutlass held tight as he looked for an opening of any kind.

He knew better than anyone, especially Brian, just how fleeting the life a mortal's life was and even those of fellow Immortals. But that was no reason to take the actions Brian had.
Methos took a defensive stance, waiting for the other Immortal to make his move.

"You're quite good," he said as he continued circling him. "I would say I'm impressed but what's the point. I dare say I underestimated your age, though. That doesn't normally happen for me." He feinted right this time and as he turned he pulled a dagger from inside his jacket and thrust it towards Methos' side.

Methos thrusted his Ivanhoe down toward Brian's stomach, as he reared his head back and then headbutted the other Immortal.

He gave another cry, this one more filled with rage than anything else as he moved back towards Methos, swinging towards the other immortal's stomach as he did so.

He brought up the rapier high over his own head, "There's something I'd like you to know before you die. It's not something I often tell other Immortals. But considering you're about to be not so Immortal... I figure I can tell you."
"I am not only older than you previous thought... I am the oldest living Immortal. I'm Methos. And you, Brian? You're nothing."
He brought the sword down, rending Brain's head from his body.

Only the ringing of his cell phone could now be heard as Mac tried calling him, worrying over the amount of time that had passed and the fact that Daniel was still sitting in bed, pistol in hand and not saying anything.

He stepped on the gas, flooring it the whole way back to the house. He got out of the car and rushed in and to the bedroom.
